BA Castleton State College

Courtney is a Summa Cum Laude graduate from Castleton University, formerly Castleton State College. She graduated in 2010 with a BA in her chosen fields of History and Education. While at Castleton, she was inducted into Phi Alpha Theta (National History Honors Society) and Kappa Delta Pi (National Educators Honors Society). She also participated as a presenter during the Vermont Arts and Sciences Symposium, where she presented her presentation on using video games in the classroom and which also led to a recognized editorial piece in the Castleton Spartan Newsletter in 2008.

Courtney moved to Vermont in 2005 to pursue both her education as well as be close to her northern family members. She spent a majority of her time growing up prior to this in Jacksonville, NC and Hanscom Air Force Base, MA during her father’s career in United States Marine Corps. During her time in MA, she participated in assisting her brother, a Second Lieutenant at Fort Drum, New York, communicate information to families of service members in his unit during their deployment to Afghanistan after the September 11th terrorist attacks. Recognizing this contribution, Courtney was awarded the Hanscom Officers Wives Club scholarship award from the Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation of Bedford as well as the Marine Corps Scholarship in 2005. She also was recognized by the United States Achievement Academy during 2004-2005 school year for her academic achievements at Bedford High School. During her last few years in MA, she also worked closely with her mother, a woman whose careers spans many different military and civilian-oriented occupations including teaching, as an assistant teacher for the catechism programs for Sacred Heart and St. Brigid Church for elementary school students. It was here, through her experiences with her mother that she knew teaching was for her.

Besides teaching history at KMS, Courtney enjoys many different hobbies which include taking care of her two pups, creative writing, watching documentaries and South Korean dramas online, and playing video games. She currently resides in West Rutland VT.
