Student of the Week - November 2, 2016
Congratulations to Hannah Soar who was named Student of the Week and Wednesday's all-school meeting. Hannah is a 12th grade Freestyle athlete who comes to KMS from Somers, CT and is also a member of the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team. Hannah was nominated for this award by math department chair Steve Tuckerman, who teaches Hannah calculus. Steve shared, "Hannah has done a nice job keeping up with calculus while she's been away traveling and has a great comprehension of the material. Hannah has been gone now for three weeks. Her grade on the mid chapter Calculus quiz was the highest in the class." Art teacher Eric Kuntz seconded the nomination adding, "My vote is for Hannah Soar, who has been doing great work while out on the road. She has kept up with all her sketchbook assignments, and they have been outstanding!" Physics teacher Ted Schaft added, "Hannah refuses to let anything go by her without giving it her best shot. We used Google Hangouts while she was away and while she struggled mightily, she worked to overcome it and mastered it. She didn't let bad internet, six time zones or only attending five of 15 classes stop her." It's undoubtedly a challenge to balance a rigorous academic schedule with the demands of training and competing with the U.S. Ski Team, and Hannah has done so expertly. Well done, Hannah!
