Student of the Week - November 16, 2016
Congratulations to Cameron Washburn, who was named Student of the Week at Wednesday's all-school meeting. Cameron is an 9th grade Alpine athlete who comes to KMS from Upper Saddle River, NJ. He was nominated for this award by many of his teachers, who all noted his strong work ethic and academic capability. English teacher Debbie Franks describes Cam as "thoughtful, engaged, self-directed, and hard working." Science teacher Ted Schaft added to Debbie's statement, saying "Cameron is all those things and more. He is very inquisitive and works through challenges in a business-like manner." English teacher Shayna Miller added, "Cameron has shown an excellent beginning work ethic in his Foundations of Literacy and Technology course. He has been working on an article on the difference between psychopaths and sociopaths and has been very open-minded about the resources I gave him, utilizing them quite well in his writing (which is already superior). He is a pleasure to teach." History Department Chair Courtney O'Keefe shared, "I have had Cam for one class this week, as he shifted on to my schedule for winter-term. In this one meeting, he proved himself to be an insightful and engaged student. He did great with discussion, used his experiences in Japan to understand some of the history we were studying, and asked really great questions. I left class knowing that he will be an awesome student to work with this term." Art teacher Eric Kuntz commented, "Without question, Cameron is above pace in art. He has been showing up early and getting quality work done; he has a great eye for photography. Cameron did very nice work on his first project, which was shooting over 70 different photos of the different elements of art." Spanish teacher Alexis Vander Els added her thoughts, "Cameron is fluent in speaking Spanish; he is practicing and learning more about reading and writing in the language. He is doing this with the class as a group, and rather than being a "know it all", he is helpful and thoughtful in his responses. I am sure I will learn a few things from him! As he helps me with my Spanish speaking, I will help him in writing!" Awesome work, Cameron! Way to go!
