KMS Cycling alum signs with UCI pro team
Killington Mountain School cycling team alum Vivien Rindisbacher has just signed with H&R Block Pro Cycling, a UCI Continental Team focused on development of Canadian riders through the M1 project. The team's website explains, "The M1 Project has been established to be a platform for male and female Canadian road cyclists to excel in the sport by providing them teams that will allow them to progress from an entry point to the highest level in the sport. The goal is to bring everyone in Canada under one umbrella, streamlining communications between Clubs, Provincial Associations, Corporations and the Public Sector. This will result in a coordinated and unified effort between everyone to accomplish the projects current and future goals."
Vivien, a native of Newton, MA, signed a one-year deal with H&R Block. He shared his feelings about joining the team from over in Europe where he's spent the past few months training, "I'm currently living in Girona, Spain. I moved here on November 13th and will be here until February 28th, so it's given me a great opportunity to get some great training under my belt in preparation for the big step up of racing with the best professionals in North America. With the help of my coach, I've seen some great improvements, and I'm confident I can be competitive in the top races next year. Up next, I will be headed back home to Newton, MA for one or two weeks before going to New Mexico to meet my new teammates for a training camp before our first big races. I'm really excited to see what the year brings, and I'm ready for a new challenge." Viven shared some photos of the beautiful vistas he's been privy too while training in Europe (see gallery below).
As a member of this UCI team, Vivien will be competing in races throughout the US, Canada, Europe and Asia; these races are considerably longer than the junior races Vivien has experienced to date, so the time in Spain allows him to develop a base so that he's well-prepared for these longer races.
Vivien shared, "I was so excited to get the call. I get to race the best races in the US with the best people, so it's a real taste of the pros. I'm excited to do this but also stressed to some degree because it will be harder than what I've done to date, and I want to do well. The people I will be racing with are absolutely top-notch."
In addition to his cycling plans, Vivien's academic plans include attending Boston University in the fall of 2018, where he will be pursuing a health science bachelor degree, with plans to do a Masters in physical therapy.
